Every threshold names its instrument
We assess against published standards, not against a manufacturer's marketing sheet. Where a standard does not exist, we say so and describe the method instead.
| Domain | Reference | Read by |
|---|---|---|
| Light | CIE S 026, and IEEE 1789 for temporal light modulation | Spectroradiometer at the vertical plane of the eye |
| Water | PWTAG TN71 water management record | Calibrated immersion probe, logged under load |
| Air | ISO 16890, ePM1 at or above 80 per cent | Breathing zone sensor, occupied for 72 hours |
| Acoustics | ISO 16283-1 for airborne sound reduction | Field measurement between room and circulation |
| Photobiomodulation | No settled standard. Method stated in full | Optical power meter at the working distance |
Where a threshold cannot be measured, we remove it rather than soften it.
Claim extraction
Every claim made by the supplier is written down as a parameter with a unit. Claims that cannot be written this way are recorded as unevidenced.
Literature position
The dose response in the peer-reviewed literature is separated from the dose the equipment actually delivers. The gap between the two is usually the finding.
Bench and in situ measurement
Measured at the distance and the load at which a body will use it, not at the manufacturer's stated test condition.
Verdict and review date
Green, amber or red, with the conditions attached to it and the date on which it will be tested again.
Applied to procurement, this becomes the diligence question sets: the questions a supplier answers in writing before we specify.
